Project 13: Can You Slinkachu? (Global Model Village)
The 'Little People Project' started in 2006 and it uses miniature model train set characters that have been remodelled and painted. They are carefully placed, photographed, and left on the street. This makes it both a street art installation project and a photography project. Cool right?
The installations are meant to surprise people and encourage people to be more aware of their surroundings. The photographer/artist strives to show the theme of loneliness and melancholy in his photographs. This loneliness is caused by living in the big city, feeling lost and overwhelmed. But, underneath this, there is always a sense of humour and irony.
We need to empathize with the tiny people.
Your assignment this week is the biggest challenge yet. Can you Slinkachu? Using the tools available to you at school (or items you may have at home), can you set up a photo shoot that captures little people dealing with a big situation? Ideally, your photograph would make a statement about society and people. It would also connect with the bigger environment around the picture as well.
For this assignment, you can work alone or with a partner. No groups larger than two individuals please. You and your partner (if you choose to work with one) can submit the same photograph to your Shutterfly. Please submit a close up and a long shot to show your work. Good luck. You will need it!
