Project 8: Shooting from the Hip
Shooting from the hip is a great technique and, if you've never tried it, makes a great basis for a photography assignment. What makes it so great is the lack of planning or set up. Not to mention that your subject doesn't have the same opportunity to pose.
Hold your camera down by your hip. With your camera at waist level, you shoot upwards, without looking through the viewfinder – so your subjects don't know they are being photographed and you are rewarded with genuinely candid photographs of people, with the added bonus of an interesting perspective.
Your assignment this week is a SOLO project. It will be even better if you use some time outside of the school. If you have your own camera at home, make a date with your hip and the street at least, or shoot everyday on your way to school. If you are using a school camera, walk the hallways and see what you can find.
Post at least ONE unique image to your Shutterfly page to show that you can shoot from the hip. Hand in at least one image (or consider making a collage on PicMonkey of your best images) on Schoolzone!
